2-22-10 Meeting

Chris led worship, highlighted by a couple of hymns. He urged us to envision what we are singing and to sing with joy.

Anthony preached out of John 9. We are powerless like the blind man until Christ touches us and makes us see.

2-1-10 Meeting

As it was the first meeting of the month, this was our business meeting. We first discussed Special Touch Ministry. There are volunteer positions open for the summer camp this August and the monthly chapter meetings. If you are interested, speak to T.J., Derek, or Richard by WEDNESDAY, the 3rd, and there is an application to fill out. If you just want to go without volunteering officially, Derek can fit a few in his car when he goes. The first meeting is February 15.

We will start planning for a fellowship event of some kind (probably a hang out at the Eubanks’) and an evangelism/service outreach this week.

We want everyone to brainstorm ways that we could work on our spiritual gifts together and sharpen each others’ skills.

We finished the business part of the meeting, and Chase Clay led us in worship.

Chris then spoke from Luke 14:26-34, 1 Peter 5:7, and Luke 6:46 on surrender, emphasizing that everything in our lives must be submitted to Christ to truly be his disciple.

Prayer requests: Derek’s son will be deployed to Afghanistan in June, Chris’s friend Dana Little is recovering from serious illness, Richard asked for prayer that God would lead him in his life (we all need to pray for each other there), and pray for T.J.’s muscle spasms.

After opening with a time of prayer, T.J. shared a song.

Derek then updated us on Special Touch. They are starting a chapter in Hope, and leadership meetings are already under way. He hopes that meetings will commence in February and asked for volunteer help in any capacity. Meetings are every third Monday of each month. He also handed out applications for helping out with the Special Touch summer camp, which will take place August 9-13. Applications are due in the middle of March, but Derek emphasized that we should make sure the Lord is leading us to this ministry before we commit.

Next, T.J. showed us a powerful video from the 2008 Special Touch camp.

We closed the meeting in prayer.

12-7-09 Meeting

Jeff opened the business meeting by announcing his resignation from the position of Vice President.

TJ was voted Special Touch liaison.

Monday at 3:30 was voted to be the Brotherhood’s meeting time for the spring ’10 semester.

Richard resigned as secretary. Anthony was voted as new secretary.

Chris was voted as the new vice president.

Richard was elected as president, replacing TJ.

Communion was taken, lead by Daniel.

Derek spoke from Isaiah 11:6-9 about peace on earth. Because we live in such a cruel, twisted world (Romans 8), we need the peace of Jesus, not just a piece of Him. We, as the Church and as church leaders, are called to be peacemakers in this world.

For Derek’s commission, the brothers layed hands on Derek and prayed.

T.J. Began by reminding us that next week is our monthly refocus meeting.

Chris Cook led the group in worship today. He played guitar and led us in singing Amazing Grace and He Set Me Free.

11-2-09 Meeting

Today’s meeting was the monthly refocus meeting.

As usual, T.J. opened the meeting. The first issue that we covered was a weekly e-mail to all of the brothers. The e-mail’s will be sent every Sunday afternoon to remind all of the members that we will have a meeting the next day.

Jeff Green also asked us to remind the Pruet Sisters that they are invited to next weeks meeting. I will be in contact with Kelsey Hack, the sister’s secretary, to encourage participation.

The second meeting of December will be our last meeting of the semester, and we will observe the Lord’s Supper. Also, we will commission any graduating members.

There is a cookout planned for November thirteenth. We will go to Dr. Viser’s house to grill, watch Facing the Giants, and worship. Jeff Green will send an e-mail with more details.

With the business portion of the meeting closed, Chase Clay read Psalm 100 and then T.J. prayed. After that, Jeff led worship.

Dr. Viser was our guest speaker today. He spoke to us out of 2 Samuel chapter 11 on the topic of sexual temptation, and gave us seven principles. They are:

Satan always hits you when you least expect it.
It’s not the temptation, it’s what you do with it.
We must have accountability in our lives.
Openness is a necessity to overcoming sin.
Don’t wait to be confronted about your sin.
There are always consequences for our actions.
God is always willing to forgive.

We ended our meeting with prayer at the altar. Kevin Rodriquez is scheduled to speak next week.

We had eleven members in attendance today.

Jeff Green led us in singing hymnals.

Derek Bass spoke about Special Touch ministries. Special Touch is a ministry for people with special needs. Derek is helping to start a chapter in Hope, and wanted to tell us a little bit about it. He said that volunteer applications will be available in the future.

T.J. Connel finished by singing Holy Ground.

10-12-9 Meeting

T.J. opened up the meeting by reminding us that we needed to bring money for T-shirts. He also shared the pain that he was going through.

Chase Clay led us in worship. Instead of singing, we focused on what it means to be holy.

Chris Cooke continued the focus on holy by speaking to us out of 1 Peter and other chapters about the why, how, and what if of holiness.

Today’s meeting was the monthly refocus meeting.

T.J. opened up the meeting by inviting Dr. Viser to speak to the group for a brief moment. Dr. Viser had two things to say. First, Dr. Viser invited anyone in the group to come to a weekly purity group for those who struggle with pornography or lust. The group meets Mondays at 9:00 P.M. at Third Street Baptist. Second, Dr. Viser invited the group to have a fellowship at his house, mentioning that he would ask Dr. Hays to help cover the finances. The official decision was that “we’ll get back to you on that,” but the group expressed that a cook out would be good.

T.J. mentioned to the Brotherhood that a final decision was needed regarding the final colors of the T-Shirts. Jeff suggested navy blue t-shirts with white ink, and the motion was passed. With that decided, Chase led the group in worship.

Adam spoke primarily about the doctrine of the Trinity, and how that applies to the way Christians live in community. He touched on a number of passages, including: Mark 12:28-34, 1 Corinthians 8:6, 1John 1: 1-2, Acts 5: 1-10, and James 5:16-18. Adam broke the group into pairs in order for confession and prayer. The meeting ended with corporate prayer at the altar.
